Nokia 8: The new flagship Android phone details

Ahead of its launch today, we bring to you all the details that are out there for the HMD Global Oy’s much-anticipated flagship phone Nokia 8. The phone will be unveiled in London.

Nokia 8 will likely be more like the Nokia 5 that will boast a 2.5D curved glass. It has camera on the left corner with speaker-line beside just below it, there is a capsule shape sensor, according to leaked images.  The physical home button-cum-fingerprint sensor in the shape of a curved rectangle is at the bottom. It will be made available in three colour options: Tempered Blue, Silver (Steel) and Copper Gold.

Nokia 8 will likely have a smooth high-grade metal shell at the back and additional metal strip on top. The phone will sport a 5.7-inch QHD (2K: 2560x1440p) screen with Gorilla Glass 5 shield with 2.5D curved glass on the edges. It is said to measure 151.55mm in height (diagonal) and 73.7 mm wide.

The phone is expected to come packed with Snapdragon 835 octa-core, Qualcomm’s most powerful processor to date, and will be backed by 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB storage.


Recent reports have indicated Nokia 8 will come with two 13MP cameras on the back and the front, with 4K video recording capabilities. Nokia 8 will be the company’s first 2017-series phone to house state-of-the-art Carl Zeiss camera sensors.

The phone will have Li-ion based battery, most probably having 3,300mAh minimum (or more) capacity with Type C v3.1 USB charging port with fast charging capabilities. Other features may include Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n/ac; dual-band: 2.4GHz & 5GHz), Bluetooth v5.0 and A-GPS/GLONASS support.

The price of the phone is expected to be around €589 (roughly $675/ Rs 43,416) and it will hit stores initially in Europe, by September.

Nokia 5 Details:

Nokia 5 smartphone was launched in February 2017, and comes with a 5.20-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 720 pixels by 1280 pixels. It is powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and it comes with 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage. The Nokia 5 packs a 13-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 8-megapixel front shooter for selfies. The phone runs Android 7.1.1 and is powered by a 3000mAh non removable battery. It measures 149.70 x 72.50 x 8.05 (height x width x thickness) .

Nokia 8 copper gold variant tipped online

New images of Nokia 8 surfaced online tipping a copper gold variant of the HMD Global flagship. Fresh leaks have highlighted the price and design of the phone as well.

Romanian site reported that in Romania, Vodafone has listed the Nokia 8 for EUR 517.42 (roughly Rs. 38,900), a price lower than the earlier rumoured EUR 589 (roughly Rs. 43,400).

Newly leaked photos first surfaced on Chinese social site Baidu showing the Copper Gold variant in action, with the screen in a working condition. The photo also shows sufficient bezel, capacities buttons for navigation, and a home button underneath which the fingerprint scanner that is rumoured to be added.

The phone comes with the vertical dual camera strip at the back, courtesy Carl Zeiss optics. Previous renders suggested the 3.5mm audio jack sits on the top edge. The phone could also sport a Micro USB port i.e. no fast charging.

In a separate leak,  Nokia 2 was also tipped on Weibo sporting a 4.5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) display, a Snapdragon 212 processor, 8GB internal memory, 8-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera, and runs on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box.

It has been rumoured that the Nokia 8 may release worldwide end of this year.

Nokia 8 could be unveiled in August at HMD Global’s London event

HMD Global could most likely unveil the its first flagship Android Nokia smartphone on August 16, rumors claim as the company begins sending invites for its London event. Details about the Nokia 8 have leaked over the last few months, with some claims that the new phone will have dual rear cameras.

Several leaked renders of the smartphone have suggested that it will come with Carl Zeiss branding, according to media reports. According to the invite, HMD Global will “unveil the next milestone for Nokia phones” at the event.


To give a refresher of the rumored specs, the Nokia 8 will mostly run Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box and sport a 5.3-inch QHD display. It is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor. It is rumored to come with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, but some also claim that a 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM variants may also hit the market.

In terms of optics, the upcoming Nokia flagship is expected to come with two 13-megapixel rear sensors with Carl Zeiss branding, and a 13-megapixel camera at front for taking selfies.
While there has been no confirmation about the color variants as well, leaked photos showed the phone in Copper Gold, Blue and Silver variants.
The Nokia 8 is expected to be priced around EUR 589 (roughly Rs. 43,400).
