The war over unlimited plan: Idea may soon join free data line to counter Jio and Airtel

Idea Cellular may soon start offering unlimited free data with certain data packs or plans with a validity of 1-1.5 years, Moneycontrol reported. The country’s third largest telecom operator is looking to join the league of Reliance Jio and Airtel to counter its rivals.

The offer may be available only to 4G users, the report said, adding that Idea is also looking at offering free international incoming calls on a down payment. The price war continues to heat up as Reliance Jio extended its free services till March, 2017 under its New Year offer.

Earlier this week, Airtel announced that a recharge of Rs 345 will get unlimited local and STD calls to any network in India as well as 1GB fixed data per monthly cycle. Airtel’s postpaid customers opting for any MyPlan Infinity plan can get 3GB free data along with similar benefits as that of prepaid users.

The unlimited plan war, which was started by Jio, helped the company cross 60 million customers till date since the plan was announced in September 2016. In order to retain the subscriber base, other telecom services are offering similar plans now as most customers were seen switching to Jio.

However, who wins this war can be decided only after Jio’s free services end in March.

So, which network are you planning to take?
