iPhone 8 rumors: New phone could have ‘Rear-Facing 3D Laser’ for AI features

Amid growing rumors about the new iPhone 8, a new report claims that Apple has been working on a “rear-facing 3D laser system” that can possibly be implemented at the back of the upcoming phone in order to facilitate AR features as well as improve the camera performance. The news comes after the Cupertino-based company announced of ARKit at this year’s WWDC.

Fast Company reported, citing sources, that Apple is working on a sensor system for its upcoming smartphones. These will enable better detection of depth for the augmented reality apps with the help of laser. It will also provide better autofocus in terms of photography.
“VCSEL laser systems calculate the distance the light travels from the laser to the target and back to the sensor, and generate a Time of Flight (TOF) measurement. The system consists of a source (the VCSEL laser), a lens, detector (sensor), and a processor. The whole thing costs about $2 per phone,” Fast Company said.
Earlier there have been reports that the iPhone 8 might come with front 3D laser tech for facial recognition.
There have also been reports that the new iPhone 8 will be thicker than iPhone 7 Plus. A video published by Tiger Mobiles and OnLeaks together shows angles of the phone giving hints at its measurement and dimensions.
The dummy unit is based on 3D CAD schematics, comes directly from the factory in charge of building the new iPhone.

Reliance Jio responds to customer data breach after company data gets hacked

Is your data such as mobile numbers, email IDs, first name, last name, SIM activation date and the location from where the connection was activated, leaked?

Well, according to reports, a now-defunct website called “” dumped user details of 120 million Reliance Jio subscribers online on Sunday, causing concerns nationwide. The Mukesh Ambani-owned company has denied the breach’s authenticity, but many Jio users said that there information leaked online.

The major concern here was whether Adhaar details of individuals were also compromised as Jio activations were done using Aadhaar and all numbers are linked to Aadhaar accounts.

“We have come across the unverified and unsubstantiated claims of the website and are investigating it. Prima facie, the data appears to be unauthentic. We want to assure our subscribers that their data is safe and maintained with highest security. Data is only shared with authorities as per their requirement. We have informed law enforcement agencies about the claims of the website and will follow through to ensure strict action is taken,” a company spokesperson said, according to reports.

The company also said that an investigation is underway to find the perpetrators of the alleged hack, but also assured customers that there data is safe.

There’s a way to lock your biometrics on Aadhaar in an event of cyber attack. To do this, you need to first link your mobile number with your Adhaar card. Once done, visit UIDAI’s official website. Once you are on the “Lock/Unlock Biometrics” webpage under the services tab from UIDAI homepage, find the option to enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.

Fill in the details and generate an OTP to complete verification. Enter the OTP in the box provided on the webpage and proceed. The next screen will let you enable the lock for your Aadhaar biometrics, which includes fingerprints and iris scans.

“Locked Biometrics ensures the Aadhaar holder will not be able to use their Biometrics (fingerprints/iris) for authentications thus preventing potential misuse,” UIDAI website reads. “This system will enable Resident to lock and temporarily unlock their biometrics. This is to protect privacy and confidentiality of Resident’s Biometrics Data.”
